About Atwood

Atwood is a ghost town in Nye County, Nevada, situated 35 miles northeast of Mina. Its roots go back to 1901, when it emerged as the leading settlement of what became known as both the Fairplay Mining District and the Atwood Mining District. By 1908 the place had been completely abandoned, though it experienced a brief revival starting in 1914. The final resident departed in 1959, closing out nearly six decades of on-and-off occupation.

Visitors today will find very little on the ground — a single foundation and scattered fragments of glass are all that remain. It is a destination for those drawn to the quiet history of Nevada's mining past rather than dramatic standing ruins.
