Almy

Almy is a ghost town in Uinta County, Wyoming, situated near Evanston along a five-mile stretch of the Bear River. The settlement took its name from James T. Almy, a clerk with the Rocky Mountain Coal Company, and coal mining was the sole reason the community existed. At its peak, roughly 4,000 people called it home, though the town was repeatedly touched by mining tragedies over the course of its history.

Today Almy is a ghost town, and visitors should expect little more than a quiet river setting and traces of a once-busy industrial community. It serves best as a stop for those interested in Wyoming's coal mining past and the human cost that often accompanied it.
