About Sarvis Creek Wilderness
Sarvis Creek Wilderness encompasses 44,345 acres of pristine high-country terrain in the White River National Forest, offering backpackers and hikers a remote escape into Colorado's rugged backcountry. The wilderness features steep ridgelines, alpine meadows, and cascading creeks that carve through spruce-fir forests, providing excellent opportunities for solitude and primitive camping in a largely undeveloped landscape. Elevation ranges from approximately 8,000 to over 11,000 feet, creating diverse ecosystems and challenging terrain for experienced wilderness users. Access is deliberately limited to maintain the area's wild character—no motorized or mechanized travel is permitted, and visitors should be prepared for unmarked trails, stream crossings, and the self-reliant skills required for true backcountry exploration.
