About Rawah Wilderness
Rawah Wilderness spans 74,458 acres of pristine backcountry in north-central Colorado, straddling the Medicine Bow Range and offering dramatic alpine terrain with numerous peaks exceeding 11,000 feet. The wilderness features crystal-clear mountain lakes, expansive meadows, and dense subalpine forests that provide excellent opportunities for extended backpacking trips away from developed areas. Solitude seekers will appreciate the relatively low use compared to other Colorado wilderness areas, with well-maintained trail systems offering access to remote cirque lakes, scenic ridges, and abundant wildlife habitat including elk, mule deer, and mountain goats. The area's elevation range from 8,000 to 12,642 feet at Rawah Peak creates diverse ecosystems and challenging but rewarding backcountry experiences.
