Collapsed Lava Tube at Capulin Volcano

Hike to a collapsed lava tube along the Boca Trail! Formed of Capulin Basalt, this collapsed lava tube shows one of the ways that lava erupted from Capulin Volcano.<br /> <br /> Lava tubes are formed when the top of a lava flow hardens and the outer shell becomes solid. When molten lava no longer flows through the area, a hollow tube is left. Sometimes, these hollow tubes collapse and can be identified by linear rubble piles left over from the collapsed roof.
