Schley Trailhead
About
At over 6800 ft, this trailhead (pronounced "SH-lie") is the highest elevation recreation site on the Ninemile Ranger District, and provides access to several trails extending into the Great Burn proposed wilderness. The trailhead is accessed by the long, steep, and rocky Surveyor Cr. Rd. No. 7734 - passenger cars are not recommended, and trailers require extreme caution. The road continues past the trailhead towards the Stateline Tr. No. 738 and Snowbird Mine, but is only open 7/15 - 8/31 as conditions allow, is extremely steep and rocky, and is not passable by trailers. Schley Mountain Tr. No. 110 provides an alternative route to Tr. 738 from the trailhead. Tr. 110 also extends north of the trailhead to connect with the West Fork Fish Cr. Tr. No. 101 and the rest of the Great Burn trail network. All trails in the area are closed to motor vehicles - see the Motor Vehicle Use Map. The Schley Trailhead features a vault toilet, a stock ramp, numerous hitching rails, a fire ring, and an information kiosk.
